Araya of Hawk's Rest, Isha’s older sister, a widow of 45 years.
Tanthori, Lord Karkeya's newly hired leg-breaker and captain of the Manor guard.
Lord Karkeya Altay of the Heavenly Wind
Lady Sumaya Altay of the Heavenly Wind
Brahe of the Shadowed Ash, another noble and friend of Karkeya’s. Though he is already betrothed to a woman he loves quite a bit, he intends to secretly marry Karkey’s daughter and fulfill the requirements of the sacrifice, hoping to gain power within his house.
Ithil Aerie of the Heavenly Wind, Karkeya’s younger cousin and Beast-Trothed to Dawnfeather, a hawk of fiery red, gold and amber coloration. A resident of the Aerie Citadel, a major holding of the House of the Heavenly Wind, currently held by Asara the Pinioned Dowager, Karkeya’s grandmother.
Madjan, the Keeper of the Mountain, a man from a foreign kingdom Land-Trothed to Three Ghosts Peak. He finds Isha and fights off the Heavenly Wind soldiers pursuing her. Like the Three Ghosts, he acts as guardian for the shrine as well.

Lady Maya, Karkeya's mother.
Keeper of the Keys, the head of the servants at Altay Manor. Usually wears brocade robes of office, and a thick golden chain around his/her neck, from which hang keys to all the locks in the manor.
Shinti, a young guard at the manor. Was just a boy when Isha served in the manor kitchens.
Wasi, a senior guard at the manor.

Okun, Mayani’s beloved, killed by Tanthori’s men. His mother is Kohni and his father is Narish.

Masa, Okun's younger brother, a twelve year old. Known for his big ears.
Haomah, Araya's deceased husband.
Lohi, a rich merchant that Isha sometimes cooks feasts for.
Surya, one of the residents of Summerwing plaza.
Mitsha, one of the young toughs of Summerwing, occasionally works as a porter around town.
Magistrate Verini, an Imperial Magistrate and Hell-Trothed servant of the rashkasa named Fifty Iron Torments.

Elder Asara the Pinioned Dowager. One of the Elders of the House of the Heavenly Wind, Asara rules her clan with strength and has done so for many, many decades. She is over a hundred years old, and has long since passed her Trothmark. She is Beast-Trothed to a massive crimson-eyed, black and silver feathered hawk named Warden.

Yrsa, the Bear-Girl, Beast-Trothed to the great Mother Bear of the Western Wastes, Amni Satha.
