Temple of Stone

The Temple of Stone is a daughter cabal to the Ebon Noose. Made up of a variety of witches and warlocks trained in the Ebon Noose, the Temple of Stone practices the unique brand of New England witchery taught to them by the cabal of the Nemean. This style epitomizes American witchcraft from the Puritan era, as combined with the practices of the Silver Ladder. They believe in the use of fear as an instrument of rule, and do not hesitate to threaten and even curse those who oppose them. Of course, they are more than capable of backing up their intentions with strong magic or diplomacy, and they know that they can call upon the Nemean and the Ebon Noose for aid as well.

  • The Temple of Stone: The Temple of Stone maintain individual Sanctums in addition to the coven’s Sanctum, known as the Temple of Stone. The Temple of Stone is a modest-sized building in Queens, originally used by a cabal from before the Epulae Consilium. After the Feast, the Nemean was quick to send his people to secure certain Hallows and other sites that he and his remembered in New York, and this is the foremost of them. Despite the modesty of the building, it sits on a powerful Hallow. Upon taking possession of the Hallow, the Temple of Stone built a circle of stones atop the hill that sits at the center of the place of power, directly above the cave where the hallucinogenic mushroom-Tass of the Hallow forms. The Erynian

Acanthus Silver Ladder; X/X

Apprentice to the Nemean and rumored to be his daughter, the Erynian is in many ways the archetypal New England witch. She would have put the fright into the Puritans of the Colonies, and even in this era of politically correct witchcraft, she is unabashedly malign. She is quite fond of curses, and very adept at laying them. She is also a skilled diviner and seer, and is always accompanied by her cat familiar Pyewackett.

Magister

Mastigos Silver Ladder; X/X

One of the oldest apprentices of the Ebon Noose, Magister looks more like a witch-hunter than he does a warlock. His face craggy and set in a perpetual scowl, clad in black wool, including shiny square shoes, severe waistcoat and a broad-rimmed hat, Magister can always be found at the Erynian’s side, guiding her. He is known as an accomplished demon-summoner and spiritist.

Moros Mysterium

Called the Daughter of Hell by her cabalmates, Shahela is a young woman with stringy white-blonde hair. She tends to dress in plain dresses and go about barefoot. Haunted by the spirits of the dead, Shahela rarely has much in the way of rest. However, she is also never undefended, for the ghosts that follow her protect her, for all they torment her.

Dorin Mathers

Obrimos Silver Ladder

Naming himself for one of his supposed ancestors, Dorin Mathers is tall and lanky, looking like nothing so much as the cartoon depiction of Ichabod Crane. He shares more than a few of the same predilections, as well – he is well-read and fond of his walks out in nature, but it is there that the similarities end, for Dorin is no mild-mannered schoolteacher. He is a powerful weather witch and storm-brewer, acting in defense of his cabal and its ends when necessary.

The Grand Grimoire of the Stone Temple

Once a year, at Midsummer, as part of the cabal’s oath, each member must imprint the cabal’s Grand Grimoire with one of their rotes. Though the cabal has only been in existence for a relatively short period of time, it has acquired quite a few such rotes. It is easily considered the cabal’s greatest treasure and resource, and as such, they have taken steps to make sure that it remains safe.

The book that serves as the Grand Grimoire of the Stone Temple is not merely any book. It is of the finest craftsmanship, bound in supple black leather and containing over a thousand pieces of large onion-skin parchment. The book’s components have been treated with Matter magic, making the book’s surface impenetrable to non-magical weaponry and damage and utterly repelling water and other liquids. The pages, though nearly transluscent in their thinness, are incredibly tough.

The Grimoirath: The Grand Grimoire is not merely an enchanted book, however. It is also the fetter for the spirit of the book, awakened and empowered through the use of ancient Thyrsus rites. It was given tremendous power by the Temple of Stone and is fed Essence during the full moon, by the cabal’s Oath-bound pact with the spirit. In return, the Grimoirath keeps a close eye on the book, and can use any of the powers it is imbued with, in addition to its own Influence and Numina powers.
