HISTORY & IDENTITY

Local Conscripts

The 34th Legion has access to the conscript troops given to them by the Wizarat to aid in the defense of the Varang City-States. There are two kinds of troops:

• Fusiliers Wings: These Wings, consisting of light infantry carrying bayonet-fitted firewands and wearing reinforced buff jackets and pot helms, are the core of the Varangian military. Their relays utilize steel drums for communication, and like all Fusiliers, they are skilled at forming Flame Walls (+2 Archery specialty in doing so).
• Howdah Talons: This unit is a light cavalry talon of 20 armored elephants, each bearing five soldiers in a howdah. The howdah is mounted with a flamethrower with a 30-degree arc of fire over the top of the war-trained elephant's head. The soldiers are armed with spears, and protected by pot helms and reinforced buff jackets. The elephants grant a significant Might bonus, and also grants the soldiers a 50% cover bonus. A command elephant bears the commander, relays using steel drums and three staff-slingers wielding firedust grenades.

General of the Thirty-Fourth

• General V'neef Marilus (Earth Aspect • Imperial Garrison, Kriss, Varang City-States): The general of the V'neef Legion in the South, Marilus was a Lost Egg who took the Coin upon his graduation from Pasiap's Stair thirty years ago. He'd already drawn the attention of V'neef, and she played his patron from behind the scenes. In short order, he found his way into the V'neef Legion and rose quickly in the ranks, despite attempts to sabotage his career by the then-general, a Sesus man. Once he had the experience he needed under his belt - experience that V'neef made sure to provide by sending them to guard V'neef holdings in the South - V'neef quickly sent the old general packing, and gave Marilus the title, and a formal adoption into the House, as well.

• Blooded Rose Fang: A warstrider fang composed of two green jade and one red jade warstriders and accompanying engineers.
• Kriss Fifth & Sixth Fusiliers Wings: Two wings of fusiliers, granted by the government of Kriss.
• Kriss Second Howdah Talon: A talon of war-elephants, placed under the command of the Kriss garrison.

• Dragonlord Cathak Emris (Fire Aspect • Imperial Garrison, Yane, Varang City-States): Emris was with the Thirty-Fourth from before the V'neef took patronage of it, and survived the purge that followed. His loyalties are clear: his Legion, the Throne and then the various Houses to which he is now affiliated. He does hope to manage a decent marriage with House V'neef to assist in his elevation, of course. Indeed, his elders have sent glowing letters of recommendation and inquiry into the possibility of marriage with one of the Satrap's own daughters.

• Dragonlord Tepet Karoda (Air Aspect • Imperial Garrison, Yane, Varang City-States): One of the forefront of House Tepet's scions to be placed forward by his House when they established their early alliance with House V'neef, Karoda has done much to help cement his family's alliance over the years, including transferring from another Legion altogether in V'neef's early years to lend his expertise. He even saw to it that his House agreed to marry his daughter, Aola, into the V'neef family. But then, things went wrong - with the destruction of the Tepet Legions, he has watched the alliance he worked hard to build crumble out from under him. It is with some small measure of resentment that he has seen V'neef break off most of the V'neef betrothals to House Tepet. Desperate to keep House V'neef as allies, he insisted that his daughter go ahead with her marriage.

• Ashuru's Hailstorm XXX: A XXX of Imperial archers under the command of V'neef Ashuru, one of the grandsons of V'neef. There is some measure of resentment over the favor Ashuru shows what those trained in Legion methods consider dispensable artillerists.
• Yane Eighth Fusilier Wing: A wing of Yane's fusiliers.
• Yane Third Howdah Talon: A talon of Yane's war-elephants.

Other Troops

• Talt Second & Third Fusilier Wings: Talt has accorded a great deal of control over its troops to the Thirty-Fourth Legion, who tend to be at the forefront of it conflicts with Harborhead raiders and the like.
• Talt First through Fourth Howdah Talons: The whole of Talt's war-elephant troops are also given over to the guidance of the Legions.

Other Troops

• The Leopard Spears: A mercenary company made up of about half Harborhead tribesmen, and the other half a variety of vagabonds and war-mongering outlanders, the Leopard Spears are employed as the forward scouts and patrols around the V'neef estate outside of Kirighast. These soldiers are protected with buff jackets and oxhide shields, and armed with one-hand fighting spears and javelins. They are about the size of a standard Wing.
