Amagari are found all throughout the Four Suns, although they are most populous in the Rastram Kanaqa, where their artistic inclinations serve them well. Amagari are quite tall, standing anywhere from six-and-a-half to seven-and-a-half feet in height. They are barrel-chested, with long torsos and thin legs usually hidden beneath robes or flowing garments. Their shoulders are broad, though set further back than those of most humanoids, giving them the impression of "puffing out their chests" as though showing off or in challenge to some eyes.

Their skin ranges from a deep, jet black through brown and into yellowish hues, and has a slightly pebbled texture, but is only visible around the face, at hands and the lower portion of their legs because of their plumage of feathers. This plumage ranges through nearly every known color, often showing up as just one or two set colors, although amagari with scintillant plumages in a thousand shimmering colors are known to exist. Particularly vain amagari have also been known to dye their feathers in varying colors to their liking, as well. Among the amagari, certain feather-hues are associated with certain professions: artists and performers are almost always expected to be bright and dazzling in appearance, while somber plumages are considered most appropriate in ministers and bureaucrats.

Amagari heads are long, and bedecked with plumage like the rest of their body. Some have glorious crowns of many feathers, others have simple shapes to their head-plumage, and others simply have sleek coverings of feathers. Amagari eyes are large and expressive, and they have no noses - instead, a vestigial beak descends from the middle of the face down to form the upper part of the lip on the mouth. It is hard, like fingernails, but moveable, and their lower mouths are fleshy lips. They have no teeth, but do have several rows of hard ridges in their mouths. Amagari are largely vegetarian, although some do favor the eating of meat.

Of physical note are amagari forelimbs. Though clearly descended from wings, they are not capable of flight. Amagari forelimbs usually have an "elbow" about a third of the way down from the shoulder, and then what is called a hand=joint another third of the way down, where they have developed a three-to-four finger hand (the exact number of digits varies from individual to individual). A set of additional finger-like bones continues down the rest of the wing-arm from there, forming the outer edge of the wings. This second wing-tip joint is usually kept folded against the forearm, providing the illusion of limbs that terminate in normal hands, although amagari are known to occasionally augment their communication for emphasis or beauty, much like a courtly lady of the Blood Imperium might use a fan. Amagari in danger of falling have been known to spread their wings fully and glide to the ground on them before, though the wings are not strong enough to allow true flight or even prolonged gliding.

Like other gari, amagari do not have their own culture, and instead have blended into other cultures. Despite this, though, there is a sort of folklore that they maintain, telling stories of the Makers who supposedly created them and loved them. They believe that the zungari grew jealous of the Makers' love for the amagari and rose up against them, slaying the Makers and driving them away. Most amagari are taught to adore the relics and ruins of the Makers across the Four Suns, and they hold out a secret hope that the Makers will return for them once more. They usually despise zungari for their role in the ruining of their long-ago golden age.

If you choose to play an Amagari, modify your character as follows:

  • Add 1 to your Communication Ability.
  • Pick one of the following Ability Focuses: Communication (Performance) or Strength (Jumping).
  • You may choose Garianan as one of your cultural language when choosing Backgrounds.
  • Strange Voice: The voices of amagari are multi-partite, depending on several entirely different structures. Amagari can completely change the sound of their voice, even perfectly mimicking other voices they hear. They can also sing with multiple "voices" at once, accompanying themselves in song. They can even mimic other sounds - many amagari (those with a Performance Focus) can create the sounds of musical instruments, literally singing entire songs on their own.
  • Vestigial Wings: Though they cannot be used for flight, your wings can dramatically reduce damage taken during a fall, and can even provide some measure of forward movement in the form of a glide. You can subtract a number of dice of damage from any fallen damage equal to your Dexterity (min 1). For every such die removed, you can also propel yourself 10' away from your original starting point.
    • Example: Ratiya finds herself on the edge of a balcony, with enemies in pursuit. Gauging the distance, she vaults over it, snapping her wings out to glide. She is fifty feet up, with a Dexterity of 3. This allows her to negate three of the dice of damage (reducing it from 4d6 to a mere 1d6), as well as glide outward up to 30 feet before coming to a landing. This puts her across the street and into an alley with only a slight bump into the wall.
  • Your Speed is equal to 12 + Dexterity (minus armor penalty if applicable).
  • Roll once on the Amagari Racial Benefits chart. These reflect inborn traits and natural tendencies in your folk, rather than anything you were trained or raised to.

  • +1 Ability: Increase the indicated Ability by +1.
  • Focus: Gain the indicated Ability Focus.
  • Scintillant Plumage: Part of your feathers can shimmer and scintillate with brilliant, dazzling color in bright light, transfixing the will of those who interact with you. Tests involving Communication where such an effect might benefit you are reduced in Difficulty by one step.
  • Wild Gifted: You have a natural Wild Gift with Gifts of the Air, and it is associated with Communication for you. This follows all the normal rules of a Wild Gift.
