Derek is one of those people who always seems to fit in everywhere, but never really belong. He was well educated as part of an outreach program for sinless youth, but dropped out in favor of the party scene. He generally gets along well with the members of the various houses, but realised that he could make a career out of his interests and became a party promoter reather than joining any one.

People that know the bubbly Southern lady named Debbie rarely realise that underneath it all is a rediculously intelligant man. Derek loves to learn and is particularly fond of history. These days he is happily married to Ian, a history professor at UW, having met him by sneeking into a class on American History.

Joule and Debbie met one night shortly after Joule came to the Barrens. Joule was obviously new to the drag schene and obviously out of her element. Debbie took her under her wing and trained her, having always had a soft spot for troubled youths. Joule has even been over to Derek's house for dinner a few times, but generally avoids doing so because Ian will inevitably ask questions about Joule's past that she is not comfortable answering.
