Higher Mysteries

  • Entheogenic Communion (•••): The entheogenic shaman is deeply in touch with the strangeness that those who use hallucinogens touch. Those who are thus in touch are often odd, dreaming individuals who seem out of place in normal society. As a result, the magician may purchase Tradition Rotes and dots in the Dream and Occultation Merits using Arcane Experience.
  • Ripping the Trip (••••): An entheogenic magician who is in the middle of a trip can instinctually understand the hallucinations that those around her are experiencing. As a result, Sleepers around her that are in the middle of a hallucinogen trip are considered Sleepwalkers for the purpose of determining Paradox when she used Tradition Rotes or improvised magic. Additionally, while experiencing an entheogen trip, the magician gains a +2 dice bonus to all Unveiling Resonance rolls.
  • Entheogenic Benefits (•••••): Consuming certain entheogens grant different benefits to the shaman's magic, based on the understood power of the entheogen. In addition to the bonus below, by entheogen, the shaman gains a +2 dice bonus to casting Tradition Rotes and improvised magic while high on the entheogen. Additionally, during a trip, a shaman may make a Dream Merit roll to attempt to grasp a new Tradition Rote from the secrets of the hallucinations she experiences. This is an extended roll using the Dream Merit's normal dice pool, taking one hour per roll during the trip. The highest rated Arcana in the rote cannot exceed the magician's Dream Merit rating.
    • Ayahuasca: +1 to Death Arcanum
    • Fly Agaric: +1 to Life Arcanum
    • Ibogaine: All sympathetic spells directed at the magician suffer an additional -2 penalty, on top of all other penalties.
    • LSD: +1 to Prime Arcanum
    • Peyote: +1 to Spirit Arcanum
    • Psilocybin: +1 to Mind Arcanum

Typical Entheogenic Rotes

The following are some of the most commonly taught entheogenic rotes.

Shamanic Communion (Mind ••)

  • Spell: Playback Vision
  • Dice Pool: Stamina + Expression + Mind
  • Factor Bonuses: Using a wand of sacred wood or bone to bless the targets +1
  • Tradition Rote: The caster must have an entheogens in his bloodstream, and urinate into a vessel, which the targets of the spell drink.

Speaking Through the Trip (Mind •••)

  • Spell: Inspire
  • Dice Pool: Manipulation + Persuasion + Mind
  • Factor Bonuses: Whispering in target’s ear +1;
  • Tradition Rote: Target must be in the middle of an entheogen trip while music plays

Surfing the Sacred Convergence (Mind ••••)

  • Spell: Gleaning the Crowd
  • Dice Pool: Presence + Occult + Mind
  • Factor Bonuses: Caster is on entheogens +1
  • Tradition Rote: Must crowd-surf at a gathering of entheogens-users, in the middle of a festival at which music is playing.

Commune with Zeitgeist (Prime • + Time ••)

  • Spell: Chronicle Resonance
  • Dice Pool: Wits + Survival + Prime
  • Factor Bonuses: Must have been on the street or in neighborhood for at least one hour +1, for one week +2
  • Tradition Rote: Magician must not only be in the middle of a trip, but must actually scavenge food or beg for change in the neighborhood.

Feeling the Pull (Prime ••)

  • Spell: Locate Node
  • Dice Pool: Wits + Occult + Prime
  • Factor Bonuses: Small stone suspended from chain or thong +1
  • Tradition Rote: Caster must be in the middle of an entheogen trip.

Shaman's Chant (Spirit •)

  • Spell: Spirit Tongue
  • Dice Pool: Presence + Expression + Spirit
  • Factor Bonuses: Chant for one turn +1, for one minute +2
  • Tradition Rote: Caster must be in entheogen trip

Dreaming City Dreams (Time ••)

  • Spell: Postcognition
  • Dice Pool: Composure + Expression + Time
  • Factor Bonuses: Utilizing some form of artistic medium, such as painting or sculpture +1
  • Tradition Rote: Caster must be in the middle of an entheogen trip.
