Hammergate is primarily defensive in construction, intended as a last defense should the Vale fall. It is constructed half sunken within the walls of the mountain range, and half of buildings (mostly of human construction) built up against those walls. The gate itself is the only known entry passage into the Underroads, the old passages built between the dwarven citadels of the Starfrost Mountains. Hammergate has developed a trading post where Valefolk come to purchase the goods of the craftsfolk from the citadels. A road runs from Hammergate to Great Gate, with the town of Thörgrinnir halfway between them.
