History
Ethnicity: Turami (minor Chondathan)
Founded: 1248
Previous Eras: 1354 DR

One of the Houses that nearly disappeared during the Wailing Years, for a while there were no Ammakyls in Waterdeep. Many of the main branch of the family were killed by the Spellplague and the chaos that followed. Then, in the 1450s DR, the herald Falconfree sent inquiries around to known branches of the family. According to the geneaologies, the rightful inheritors of the Ammakyl title were the branch of the family that had fled to Turmish. When the family returned, Waterdeep was scandalized to learn that most of the family were Turami half-elves, although they quickly settled into Waterdeep's society.

Members of the Family

Main Branch

The main branch of House Ammakyl is mainly made up of Turami half-elves, from where Ammakyl nobles commingled with both elven allies in Turmish.

  • Naumas Ammakyl: Patriarch (Rank 3) • 63 years. Broad-bellied and strong-jawed, Naumas is sometimes called "the Quiet Thunder" by his peers, for the Ammakyl patriarch speaks rarely but when he does, he is listened to. His deep basso voice carries well in noble salons, and he has a way with those words. A half-elf of more than a half-century in age, Naumas has the appearance of a man half his age and still very much in his prime.
  • Vaelle Ammakyl: Consort (Rank 2) • 61 years. A half-elf raised with her elven mother in Turmish, Vaelle is from an old family long allied with the Ammakyls. She is tall and slender, and much envied for her seemingly eternal beauty by her peers in Waterdeep. She doesn't often appear at social events, however, as Vaelle seems to have little patience with the sorts of topics that interest most of society's matrons. It's well known that she loves horse-riding and hunting, and frequently spends many tendays away in Amphail hunting in the countryside.
  • Jadzia Ammakyl: Heir (Rank 2) • 40 years. With a reputation for both her loveliness and her riches (the favorite joke is that Jadzia is "as rich as Waukeen's handmaiden"), Jadzia has a head for business that she doesn't often flaunt, preferring to delegate to capable representatives. Jadzia is a daunting socialite who has indicated that she's on the hunt for a good husband. Of course, the would-be suitors have lined up, but she meets most of their offers with the shrug of a single bared shoulder and a turned-away, bored face. Where her mother has no use for society, Jadzia seems most at home in it.
Vescaras-ammakyl.jpg
Vescaras Ammakyl
Patriarch's secondborn son (Rank 2) • 35 years
A roguish rake, Vescaras runs many of the family's wine caravans, overseeing the trade from his offices in the House villa. He has spent years on the road before, managing those caravans personally in the past, but today he seems to prefer to remain in Waterdeep, swimming through the social waters like a shark with a particularly winning smile.
  • Salenta Ammakyl: Patriarch's thirdborn daughter (Rank 1) • 32 years. "Salenta the Dancer," they call her, and her peers eagerly invite her to any event where dancing might occur. Though some stodgier nobles sniff and suggest that the traditional Turami dancing is inappropriate, her sensual movements and intricate, precise footwork are the envy of many other nobles. By and large, Salenta seems content to roam Waterdeep's society without giving any indication that she'd like to do anything else.
Lembiyya-ammakyl.jpg
Lembiyya Ammakyl
Patriarch's fourthborn daughter (Rank 1) • 26 years
Lembiyya's natural inclination for natural magics came early, speaking with household animals. For years the family assumed it was an adorable fantasy of a precocious child, until the animals started telling her things she couldn't actually know otherwise. Her refusal to engage with noble fashions occasionally accidentally sets new fashion trends, although she seems witheringly surly about it when that happens. Like most of the Woodfauns, she doesn't have much use for noble society, though she is very personable when she chooses to be.
  • Ofellia Ammakyl: Patriarch's fifthborn daughter (Rank 1) • 25 years. Ofellia was sixteen when she first snuck off to take vows as an acolyte in the House of Bounty, the temple to Chauntea in the Undercliffs. Her family quickly sorted out the confusion and she returned home, but the years since have done nothing but reaffirm her desire to be a priestess of the Earth Mother. Three years ago, she took formal orders again, this time under her proper name, and she remains at the House of Bounty to this day, learning. She returns to the villa occasionally, and has been known to go on trips with her mother to Amphail.

Holdings

  • Resources Limit: If necessary, House Ammakyl could probably generate about 22,000 gp in liquid coin and valuables within a month.

Ammakyl House (Villa)

Shield Street, Sea Ward
A tall fieldstone wall topped by simple silvery half-domes inset into the stone of the wall, the wall which protects the Ammakyl villa is enchanted. During thunderstorms, neighbors are treated to a show of multiple lightning strikes striking the wall's height, where the small spheres inset into the wall glow with an ethereal light. Those attempting to scale the wall are treated to a dose of that stored lightning, along with a crack of thunder that serves as an alarm.

  • Ammakyl House: The ancestral home of House Ammakyl is a beautiful architectural wonder, designed by the elven architect Venainis (who is accorded a friend of the family and still occasionally stops by the villa when she is in Waterdeep). Cornice work in the shape of realistic-seeming grape vines, with gleaming purple glass bunches of grapes, adorn the layers of the building above the windows and beneath the steeped roof. The house itself is mostly public living spaces on the first floor, with a set-aside set of apartments for the House's elderly or disabled members. The second floor is a great galleried family library in the center of the structure, with suites and rooms opening into the galleries. The basements have cellars with useful structures, including the kitchens and bakery, the house wine cellar and the xatriarch's private wine cellar.
  • Felrennen House: Named for a rival family from the early days of Waterdeep's nobility, House Felrennen fell and House Ammakyl absorbed their assets in their entirety. Though Felrennen House is also a two-story structure, it is a bit more pedestrial, not having been designed by Venainis. It is still a lovely structure, all hardwoods and a brilliant green slate roof. Felrennen contains two floors of less-prestigious housing for members of the Ammakyl family, as well as a modest dining space and gathering hall on the first floor. As this hall opens out onto the street outside, it is frequently used for Ammakyl parties, particularly wine tastings. The basements contain a wine cellar and a smaller kitchen than that in Ammakyl House, but there is also a set of well-designed vaults for Household valuables.
  • Ruvyn Hall: Named for a retainer in early Ammakyl history, Ruvyn Hall is a finely-constructed building a single story in height, with a set of cellars the same size as the building above-ground. Ruvyn Hall is the servants' quarters, as well as the site of much of the logistics for the villa as a whole. Deliveries of goods are made to this door, and the main pantry cellars for both houses are located here. Ruvyn Hall also has a set of small tunnels that allow goods to be transported and servants to travel to both of the main houses easily no matter the weather.
  • Ammakyl Stables: The smallest building on the villa grounds is the House stables. It includes stabling for horses, and living quarters for stablemaster and his aides. The small part of the lawn between Felrennen House and the stables is gated off for use as a small paddock, as well.

Amphail

House Ammakyl maintains a number of farms in the settlement of Amphail.

Turmish

House Ammakyl also maintains a variety of vineyards in Turmish, as well as trade routes to and from that nation.

Known Faction Perks

Scions and agents of House Ammakyl in good standing might receive the following benefits:

  • Living Quarters: Renown 1+. Those in good standing with the House are given quarters within the House's Waterdhavian villa appropriate to their role in the House.
  • Living Expenses/Salaries: Renown 1+. Those in good standing with the House also receive a stipend of 1gp plus 5sp per day per point of Rank. This is not actual cash, but simply familial credit towards payment of Lifestyle costs. This stacks with the same kind of familial credit received from the Waterdhavian Noble Background (see Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide).
  • Business Opportunities: Renown 3+. Lynchpins to the House's operations receive access to a variety of business opportunities within the House's money-making endeavors. This is handled as "Running a Business" in downtime months. This does not incur a business expense, but if too many of the character rolls results that end in a loss of money, he can and will find his Rank in the House reduced.
  • Heir or Consort (Title): Renown 3+. The holder of one of the legal titles Heir of House and Consort of House, as recorded with the city of Waterdeep, is entitled to an additional 2gp per day in familial credit, per the "Living Expenses/Salaries" entry above. The heir is also accorded certain privileges within the legal system of Waterdeep, including the ability to speak on behalf of his House in some legal proceedings and the like.
  • Wealth of the House: Renown 10. The patriarch of the House is in total control of the House's finances and various holdings, established by the laws of Waterdeep.
