Holdings: Waterdeep
History
Ethnicity: Illuskan
Founded: 1273 DR
Previous Eras: 1354 DR

House Snome has maintained their standing in Waterdeep since their founding. They tend not to raise waves or create rivals, instead preferring to gift their fellows with fine distillations and liquors for their parties, showing up to enjoy their hosts' hospitality, and then speaking glowingly of it the day ofter. Though they have never risen to some of the heights of renown that some of the other Houses have as a result, they have remained prosperous and secure even in the most difficult of times.

Members of the Family

  • Lord Egglar Snome: Patriarch (Renown 10) • 66 years. Randy old Lord Egglar, a lover of whiskey, zzar, and pretty noble ladies. Bald as an egg, with moustachios so heavily waxed that some claim they are fake, Egglar's business run themselves. And that is probably for the best: he has precious little time for them. He is an avid theater-goer, even going so far as to sponsor a small troupe (the Spilt Goblet Players) himself, getting to play dramaturge with his spare time. The fact that his plays usually involve all sorts of nudity from the very lovely actors and actresses of his troupe make them a distinct favorite in the Waterdhavian social set.
  • Kurra Snome: Consort (Renown 4) • 38 years. Formerly an actress, Kurra won a place at Egglar's side not by love, but by procurement: that is, she identified his vices and predilections right off, and has thrown herself into providing him with these diversions ever since. He claims in public that she is his One True Lady, and that seems to make all that she goes through worth it to her.
  • Trelreryl Snome: Heir, patriarch's cousin (Renown 8) • 34 years. A businessman who knows his way around a festhall, Trelreryl is from a very junior line of House Snome. He grew up alongside Lord Egglar's only son, Ikmath, and the two were inseperable. But Ikmath was killed in a foolish duel two years ago, and it is House lore that Trel was the one who arrange the back-alley murder of the minor Ilvastarr bravo responsible for killing Ikmath. Shortly thereafter, Lord Egglar made Trel his heir.

Holdings

  • Resources Limit: If necessary, House Snome could probably generate about 33,000 gp in liquid coin and valuables within a month.

Snomemanse (Villa)

Phull Lane, North Ward

Snomemanse.jpg

The wall around the Snomemanse is four-foot-tall stone, mostly black but with occasional flashes of grey or white fieldstone mortared into it. These bits of stone are usually carved with the Snome crest. Tall spikes rise another four feet from the top of that wall, each of them alchemically gilded and often hung with festive ribbons and flower garlands appropriate to the season.

  • Snomemanse: A vast hall, the main house of the villa is two stories in height, through it has at least two levels worth of cellars (and some claim there are more). Its upper story soars, with long, tall windows patterned with stained glass along their top edge, as the top story stands some dozen feet in height. The main manse includes a set of street-facing offices for those who come to talk business with House Snome – unlike many nobles, they prefer not to establish factors' offices elsewhere in the city, instead wanting the chance to dazzle their would-be business partners and clients. The rest of the house has modest entertaining space, mostly in the form of a great hall and a small conservatory. The rest of the building is made up of housing for the family. The first layer of cellars is all operational, with servant housing, but also a set of heated baths; the second layer is all stored alcohol, experimental stills, and according to rumor, at least one vault of familial riches.
  • Rarindan House: Once the family began to overspill the main house, the then-patriarch Lord Rarindan bought out a neighboring building, demolished it, and build Rarindan House in its place. The "lesser lines" of the Snome name are often "banished" here, with their own kitchens and dining area, as well as in-house recreation spaces, along with quite ample apartments on the upper floor.
  • The Revelry: If the Snomes worship festivity, this is their temple to it. The building is set up solely for the purpose of revelry, with a ballroom and theater, each with street access, and both taking up both floors. The rest of the first floor is a variety of tasting rooms, salons, and assignation chambers, with a bevy of lovely secret passages between rooms and peepholes aplenty. The back portion of the second floor has a set of modest chambers used for one of three functions: housing for young, newly Come Out nobles who want to throw themselves into revelry without bothering the main house; a space to retreat to for some privacy with a new intimate friend, made at one of the Snome parties; or housing for Snome lemans.

Known Faction Perks

Scions and agents of House Snome in good standing might receive the following benefits:

  • Living Quarters: Renown 1+. Those in good standing with the House are given quarters within the House's Waterdhavian villa appropriate to their role in the House.
  • Living Expenses/Salaries: Renown 1+. Those in good standing with the House also receive a stipend of 1gp plus 5sp per day per point of Rank. This is not actual cash, but simply familial credit towards payment of Lifestyle costs. This stacks with the same kind of familial credit received from the Waterdhavian Noble Background (see Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide).
  • Business Opportunities: Renown 3+. Lynchpins to the House's operations receive access to a variety of business opportunities within the House's money-making endeavors. This is handled as "Running a Business" in downtime months. This does not incur a business expense, but if too many of the character rolls results that end in a loss of money, he can and will find his Rank in the House reduced.
  • Heir or Consort (Title): Renown 3+. The holder of one of the legal titles Heir of House and Consort of House, as recorded with the city of Waterdeep, is entitled to an additional 2gp per day in familial credit, per the "Living Expenses/Salaries" entry above. The heir is also accorded certain privileges within the legal system of Waterdeep, including the ability to speak on behalf of his House in some legal proceedings and the like.
  • Wealth of the House: Renown 10. The patriarch of the House is in total control of the House's finances and various holdings, established by the laws of Waterdeep.
