When the Angels Fall is a nWoD Mortals game set in Detroit, and using the rules update contained in the God Machine Chronicles.

Detroit is a mess. Crime is rampant, the government and police are corrupt, and monsters prey on the weak. Most people think there is no hope for the city. That it should be abandoned and paved over, that the people still in it are not worth saving. But some people still choose to live in Detroit, and a few of them even try and make it a better place.

You will be playing those who have already chosen to stick it out. And then you find ut that monsters are real.

Before we start the chronicle, I thought I would take a moment to discuss the themes of the game.

The Ties that Bind Community is important. The characters are connected and involved in the community around them. They have families, friends and loved ones. This is a story about those ties and what they would do to defend them. This is also about the toll that taking a stand against the forces evil can take on those you care about. The TV show Arrow is a great example of this.

Darkness This game will be dark. Tragic things will happen to good people, including NPC's that are close to the group. People, including the PCs, can and will die. And no matter how hard you fight, here is no promise that things will end well.

A guttering Light But there is hope. Your characters are choosing to stand against the darkness and make their world a better place. While their chances against the monsters of Detroit will not be good, they will always have a shot. While the characters might not survive their vigil, they could be the example that lights a bonfire against the darkness. There is always hope that the world can be a better place.

Character Guidelines

  • All PC's should be the kind of person that is willing to take a stand .
  • The Characters should be at least somewhat normal people. At most you will have had one or two vague and uncertain brushes with the supernatural.
  • All of the Characters should have strong ties to Detroit, and a reason for not just picking up and leaving.
  • Design at least 4 NPC's who you have close ties to. This should include family members.
  • The characters should not wield great power. No corporate CEO's, Police Captains or city councilors. You will have to solve problems yourselves, and not count on others to do it for you.
  • Any starting combat abilities should be strongly justified by the character background. If a characters stats look like they should be the start of a Hollywood blockbuster action movie, I will not approve them. How you spend XP after creation is entirely up to you.
  • Flawed Heroes. All of The PCs should have at least one flaw, (i.e. A Persistent condition per God Machine Chronicle rules).
