Arcane Stones

Arcane stones generally have an effect on the person touching the stone, or on the stone itself. They do not affect the environment in any meaningful way — arcane matrices must be used for such an effect. Stones cost half their Cost in days to enchant.

  • Disguise: This stone grants a limited use of Light Shaping — when activated, it gathers ambient light and shapes it into a single preprogrammed disguise. Prerequisites: Imbue Stone, Light Shaping, effective rank cannot exceed the maker’s adept level. Cost: 8 + (rank x2)
  • Sensing: This stone has a crude form of Second Sight, making it "sensitive" to arcane energy. The stone glows softly whenever arcana are used in its presence. Prerequisites: Imbue Stone, Second Sight, effective rank cannot exceed the maker's adept level. Cost: 6 + (rank x 2).
  • Shielding: This stone protects whoever carries or wears it with the effects of a Psychic Shield. The bearer of the stone cannot use extra effort to augment its psychic shield against a concerted assault, however (see the Psychic Shield arcanum for details). A psychic willing to use extra effort can overcome a shielding stone's effects. Shielding stones are relatively common among the nobility of Ambria. Prerequisites: Imbue Stone, Psychic Talent, Psychic Shield, effective rank cannot exceed maker's adept level. Cost: 10 + (rank x2).
  • Spark Stone: This deep red stone acts as the touch of flint and steel to combustible objects, always lighting them afire with a simple touch. Prerequisites: Imbue Stone, Fire Shaping. Cost: 6.
  • Suppression: A suppression stone has the effects of the Ward arcanum on any creature in contact with it. They are usually incorporated into manacles or other restrains for adepts or into headbands or diadems to be placed onto the heads of bound adepts. Any arcana check by an adept in contact with a suppression stone must beat a Difficulty of 10 + the stone’s rank to succeed. Prerequisites: Imbue Stone, Ward, stone’s rank cannot exceed the maker's adept level. Cost: 10 + (rank x 2).
  • Torch Stone: A simple stone, a torch stone sheds light when activated, shedding light in a radius of 18' + 2'/rank. The color and intensity of this light is set when the stone is created. Prerequisites: Imbue Stone, Light Shaping. Cost: 6 + (rank x2).

Combination Stones

Combination stones are simply arcane stones that are imbued with multiple Arcana, providing their users with multiple benefits. Each use must be activated individually, though, and the ranks of the powers must be the same. These stones are enchanted and paid for individually, as though they were two stones.

  • Flamestone: A simple garnet stone, the Flamestone is imbued with two effects — the ability to ignite combustibles by touch and an act of will, and the ability to shed a dim, golden light in a twenty-foot radius at will. Prerequisites: Imbue Stone, Light Shaping, Fire Shaping; Cost: 6 plus 9; Creation: 7 days.
  • Wardstone: A piece of white and gray snowflake obsidian taken from the mountains beyond the Pale Forest, the wardstone combines a Sensing Stone (5) and a Shielding Stone (5). Prerequisites: Imbue Stone, Psychic Shield, Second Sight; Cost: 16 plus 20; Creation: 18 days.

Arcane Matrices

An arcane matrix is a set of stones enchanted as a single unit. They are set up in a specific arcane pattern. They must be in that pattern to function; as such they are most often set into another material that will not move, such as architecture or suits of armor. Matrices take a number of weeks equal to half the cost to enchant.

  • Hearth Matrix: Made up of at least one fist-sized piece of red or orange crystal, and a flame garnet set above the hearth proper, the hearth matrix is most often set into a fireplace. When the stone above the hearth is touched, it creates a campfire-sized fire or a simple area of glowing red heat, like a bed of coals, in the hearth. Prerequisites: Imbue Stone, Fire Shaping. Cost: 16.
  • Moat Matrix: Made up of deep blue crystals or gemstones, a moat matrix must be set into a wall that touches a moat, well or other body of water. When one of the stones is touched and the password spoken, the moat matrix raises or lowers the level of the water by 2 feet per rank of the stone. This remains for an hour or until the power of the stone is released. Prerequisites: Imbue Stone, Water Shaping. Cost: 10 + (rank x2).
  • Portal Matrix: A matrix of flint, hematite or other dark, heavy stones, a portal matrix causes a doorway to open in an otherwise solid stone or brick door when the topmost stone is touched and the pass-word spoken. The passage is one foot by one foot per rank. The doorway seals up after two turns or when the word is spoken again. Prerequisites: Imbue Stone, Earth Shaping. Cost: 10 + (rank x2).
