The Powell Chrestomathy is the main caucus for all of the mystagogues of Oregon and southern Washington (northern Washington and Seattle mystagogues generally belong to another Caucus in British Columbia). For many years, it languished in terms of power, kept relatively neutered by the Guardians of the Veil in power in Portland. But with Agrippa's ascension to the Rose Seat, all that has changed, and the Chrestomathy has caught up in power fairly quickly.

Caucus House: Powell's City of Books

Arguably the world's largest used book store, Powell's is several stories in height and a full block square. It is also a repository for many arcane secrets gathered in the Pacific Northwest by the eccentric and odd scholars who belong to the Chrestomathy. Secret repositories are tucked away in spatial pockets here and there, accessible only by walking a specific pattern while holding specific books.

Even these are nothing compared to the Secret Vaults: a vast subterranean chamber accessible from the store's elevators by pushing several buttons at the same time (exactly which buttons change routinely) and investing a point of Mana into the elevator, which is an imbued item. These Vaults also feature the caverns in which the Mysterium's initiations take place.

Resources of Powell's City of Books.

  • Libraries:
    • Open(Status 1+): Shadow, Mysterious Locations, Kabala, Awakened History
    • Restricted Books(Status 3+): Abyssal Intrusions, Paradox, Goetia, Souls
    • Sealed(Status 4+): Banishers, Unknown

Gatherings

The Caucus calls its meetings on the second Sunday of every month. Twice a year it holds Symposia, in which it hosts mystagogues from other Consilii to speak on a variety of esoteric subjects generally outside the experiential range of the Chrestomathy's own experts.

Titles in the Powell Chrestomathy

Curator

The Curator is the leader of the Caucus, responsible for the protection and strengthening of the Athenaeum.

Savants

Savants are the acknowledged experts in their respective fields, prepared and willing to lend their lore to the use of the Caucus as a whole. Each possesses at least two fields of study: one mundane, and one dealing with Awakened lore.

  • Agrippa, of the Seekers of the Sublime Truth. (Status X (FACTION); Obrimos; LEGACY; KNOWN ARCANA MASTERY) The Hierarch of Portland specializes in Kabbalism and Jewish Mysticism, and the Atlantean concepts tied into the Tree of Life.
