This is the process for entering into the Inner Planes through Astral Travel.
- Prerequisites: A mage must have access to either a Demesne or a Hallow ••••• in order to access the Astral.
Contents
Meditation
The first stage of this process is Meditation within the confines of the Demesne or Hallow.
- Requires an extended Meditation roll of Composure + Wits + equipment (see 'World of Darkness corebook, p.51), with each roll taking 30 minutes.
- 1 - 3 successes: No meditation
- 4 - 7 successes: Standard Meditation (WoD p.51)
- 8 - 11 successes: Dreaming Meditation - mage chooses the visualization, but always involves either moving forward along a path, or turning round and round. This is the Astral Road, upon which the mage travels until he reaches the stratum he desires.
Event: The Astral Barrier
- Upon achieving the 12th success in Meditation, the mage experiences the Astral Barrier, experienced as something that impedes continued movement along the path chosen.
- Must spend 1 Mana to get through the barrier, arriving in the Oneiros.
Realm: Oneiros (Personal Dream)
- 12 - 15 successes: Oneiros Realm
- From the Astral Road: Mage can detect that he has reached the Oneiros by a feeling of anxiety and a sense of being near things they do not want to know about themselves.
Event: The First Reversal
- Upon reaching the 15th success in Meditation, the mage experiences the First Reversal, from "going in" to "going out," changing the direction of travel along the Astral Road.
Realm: Temenos (Human Unconscious)
- 16 - 19 successes: Temenos Realm
- From the Astral Road: Mage can detect that he has reached the Temenos because of the First Reversal and a feeling that the world just off the path is weighty and densely populated.
- Navigating the Temenos: Temenos locations have associations integral to their nature. Mages travel to different locations by links between related associations. Finding the connections from one association to the next is a Wits + Composure roll.
- Failure: The Storyteller chooses the Association.
- Success: The Player of the mage suggests 3 Associations related to his current Association; Storyteller chooses one of them.
- Exceptional Success: Players chooses the Association his mage transitions into.
Event: The Second Reversal
- Upon reaching the 20th success in Meditation, the mage experiences the Second Reversal, from "going out" back to "going in," changing the direction of travel once more along the Astral Road.
Realm: Anima Mundi (World Soul)
- 20+ successes: Anima Mundi Realm
- From the Astral Road: Mage can detect that he has reached the Anima Mundi because of the Second Reversaol and the sense that the world just off the path is both enormous and ancient.
