King Ragnar & Queen Kalmenia

King Ragnar
King of Svartsten (Deceased)

QueenMotherKalmenia.jpg
Queen Mother Kalmenia
The Dowager-Queen of Svarsten
The mother of King Bjarn is a severe woman - the mother of warriors of renown, without question. She first put swords in the hands of her children and grandchildren, and is adamant that they must all learn to fight before they do anything else. She herself was a shield-maiden of great renown, and can still wield a spear with terrifying skill. These days, though, the cold seeps into her bones, and she is more spare with her movements. But her dark eyes see everything, and she is still King Bjarn's first and foremost advisor.

The Royal Household of King Bjarn Ragnarson

The King

KingBjarn.jpeg
King Bjarn Ragnarson
King of Svartsten
King Bjarn is a hero of his people, and they love him for his ambition, his fierceness and his willingness to shed blood in the name of Svartstenfolk. Though he dearly loved his first wife - the Witch-Queen of Svarsten, Gyselle - he despairs over just how ill-suited his melancholy son, Prince Aldimar, is to be his heir.

The Witch-Queen & her Children

QueenGyselle.jpg
Queen Gyselle
Witch-Queen of Svartsten (Deceased)
The fey and uncanny witch King Bjarn brought back round-bellied to Svartsten right after he married Ludaya, Gyselle bore Bjarn his first child, a son. She and Ludaya never got along, and she frequently left the Silver-Queen to the palace, going roaming in the wilderness, and in the parts of Monument that interested her, such as the workshops of the master smith Jod, and the temples. She died five years ago.
Aldimar3.jpg
Prince Aldimar Bjarnsson
First Prince of Svartsten • 18 years
A disappointment to his father, and considered unmanly by most of the royals and the Jarls, Aldimar is a loner and a dreamer. Fond of hunting, exploring old ruins of the First Age, and eschewing sword-battle for a fine bow, Aldimar made something of a name for himself when he returned to court two years ago after undertaking a Taming Hunt, returning with a god-blooded foal named Frostmane, from whom he is inseparable.
Ingirun-1.jpg
Princess Ingirun Bjarnsdottir
Princess of Svartsten (Daughter of Gyselle) • 13 years
The Witch-Queen's second born child, Princess Ingirun is often pointed to as proof that Gyselle was no fit mother for a king's children, as she is as sweet tempered as her brother is. She is well-liked by everyone she meets, including her lika-mothers Ludaya and Giselle. She very much idolizes her older sister, Ithaya.

The Silver-Queen & her Children

QueenLudaya.jpg
Queen Ludaya
The Silver-Queen of Svartsten
King Bjarn's first queen, Ludaya is sweet natured and well-spoken - unsurprising, given her birth as the daughter of a very successful Haslanti merchant-prince. Her striking tattoos (a Haslanti affectation in vogue during her adolescence) and her preference for dressing in fine materials always set her apart, and though the Queen-Mother Kalmenia holds her in contempt for her inability to fight, her wit and her tongue serve her better than any axe could.
Ithyah.jpg
Princess Ithyah Bjarnsdottir
Princess of Svartsten (Daughter of Ludaya) • 17 years
In contrast to the disappointingly melancholy prince, Ithyah is the perfect daughter. A shield-maid that Kalmenia is deeply proud of, with her mother's beauty and social skill, there would be no question of her being elected as the next king of Svarsten...if she were male. Women have been elected by the Jarls before, certainly, but they were usually of last resort. She has just turned 19, but is a blooded warrior.
Gryffi.jpg
Prince Gryffi Bjarnsson
Prince of Svartsten (Son of Ludaya) • 12 years
The second child of Ludaya, Gryffi is an angry boy. He is the apple of his grandmother Kalmenia's eye, however, and shows just as much promise as a warrior as Ithyah did, plus the promise of being a very large man once grown. He used to follow Aldimar around, begging for stories of ancient battles, but Ludaya has seen to it that he has more important things to do.
Sinna.jpg
Princess Sinna Bjarnsdottir
Princess of Svartsten (Daughter of Ludaya) • 4 years
Sweet giggling Sinna is Ludaya's youngest girl, and spoiled by her mother. She also adores Ingirun, who spends a lot of her time playing with and looking after little Sinna.

The Sword-Queen & her Children

QueenAnja.jpg
Queen Anja
The Sword-Queen of Svartsten
King Bjarn's most recent wife, Anja is the daughter of an important war-figure in the Frost Principalities who visited Svarsten on a diplomatic mission a number of years ago. Though King Bjarn claims that the marriage comes with assurances of peace between the nations, most folk know better - Anja's father is not so well-placed that he can truly influence whether or not the Principalities come against Svarsten. For herself, Anja is pleasant enough, and a warrior's daughter without question, skilled with a sword-and-shield. The Queen Mother Kalmenia and she have an on-going feud.
Besje.jpg
Princess Besje Bjarnsdottir
Princess of Svartsten (Daughter of Anja) • 2 years
Queen Anja's first child to King Bjarn, Besje has just recently learned to walk, and does not speak yet.

The Household of Gunnar Ragnarson

Gunnar.jpg
Gunnar Ragnarson
Brother to King Bjarn
A slight man shorter than most Svartstenmen, Gunnar is something of a schemer. If he had his way, he'd put Alvar on the throne and forget Eetu ever existed. His wife occasionally reminds him that they have a daughter, as well.
Hjordis.jpg
Hjordis Aldusdottir
Wife of Gunnar
A strong shield-maiden, Hjordis is implacable and ready to defend her family, no matter what the situation. She is kind (though she doesn't tolerate any nonsense from her husband's rages), and largely responsible for the fact that their children are all so good-natured.
Eetu.jpg
Eetu Gunnarson
Quartermaster of Monument Guard • 27 years
The subject of his father's contempt for not measuring up to Gunnar's own ideals, Eetu has nonetheless made for himself a place in the Guard of Monument as its quartermaster, seeing that the force remains well-provisioned. He is also quite wealthy, having leveraged his wit and contacts into business opportunities for himself as well.
Alvar.jpg
Alvar Gunnarson
Second Son of Gunnar • 22 years
The son Gunnar wished Eetu had been, Alvar is pleasant, tall, strong, a skilled warrior, and very handsome. He is well-liked by most who know him, both for his temperament and his singing voice. Despite his father's favoritism, Alvar looks up to his older brother, and is also quite fond of his royal cousins.
Bergdis-1.jpg
Bergdis Gunnarsdottir
Daughter of Gunnar • 15 years
Solidly built, Bergdis is a skilled warrior, having learned the arts of fighting from her brother Alvar. She wishes to learn the arts of healing, however, though Gunnar will hear of none of it, insisting her adulthood will befit her royal blood. This doesn't stop her from continuing to seek out herb lore in secret. She is quite fond of reading, although is terrible at needlecrafts (other than those that come with stitching up injuries).

The Household of Gierlaug Ragnarsdottir

Jarl-Ludwig-Ek-1.jpg
Jarl Ludvig Ek
Male Air Aspect Dragonblooded, Jarl of Frostmere
Ludvig is by far the youngest of the Jarl's and the only one who is not related to the Noble's of Svartsten.
Geirlaug.jpg
Geirlaug Ragnarsdottir
Wife of Jarl xxx • Sister of King Bjarn
The youngest child of Kalmenia, and the baby sister of King Bjarn and yyy, Geirlaug married Jarl XXX after she ran away with him to war when both were quite young. She has been an excellent partner to her husband, and is quite the shield-maiden (no surprise, given who her mother is).
Tjotta.jpg
Tjotta Ludvigdottir
Daughter of Jarl xxx and Geirlaug • 16 years
Tjotta is the eldest child of XXX and Geirlaug, and was close with her cousins Aldimar and Ithyah when they were all much younger (she is about a year younger than Ithyah). Now she is nearly a woman grown, and though she doesn't show much interest in being a shield-maiden, she has a head for business and the running of the household (which she assists her mother with).
Marki.jpg
Marki Ludvigson
Son of Jarl xxx and Geirlaug • 3 years
Little Marki is a wee boy who has only just started talking (and frankly is at the age where it's a task to get him to stop talking). He has already begun sword training with his cousins under grandmother Kalmenia.
