- The Major Houses - those that stand equivalent with the Starks save for their designation as Wardens of the North - tend to be rare.
- The Houses stand above the majority of their ilk. While they may not have quite the same influence as the Houses Major and Great, they do still bear no small degree of power.
- The Minor Houses are the most common of all the noble houses. Most command a small fortification, a few leagues worth of domain and the smallfolk who work them, and spend their time trying to war with or marry into their neighboring Houses.
- The so-called Masterly Houses are basically houses of landed knights; what sets them apart from other knightly households is the fact that they are in direct service to House Stark, the Wardens of the North. They have the same restrictions as other landed knight households.
- Landed Knight Households are the households of successful or wealthy knights who have been granted land by the House they serve. They are often given a fortification or estate to manage and defend, though they are still within the service of their patron House. Such households are denied "pit and gallows," and may not use the title "Lord" for their heads of household; their heads of household are instead called "Master."

Minor Houses (Status 5)
The people of Skagos call themselves Skagosi, which means "Stoneborn" in the Old Tongue, but other northmen call them "Skaggs." Descendents of the First Men, Skagosi are savage, little more than tribes of raiders who are thought to be cannibals.
It's said that in ancient days, men of Skagos sailed to Skane, seizing all the women, killing all the men, and feasting on their hearts and livers for a fortnight. Skane has been uninhabited since.
