History

Luke was born to a poor family of next generation immigrant mutts in Chicago. Through the muddle of his heritage, he's sort of a Catholic Jew, but only a few in his family ever paid that much mind when he was growing up. Luke himself realized at a young age that he is gay, and even as a boy he was never one to feel shame. His family had a difficult time dealing with this revelation when it became even more apparent in Luke's teenaged years. His Irish Catholic father insisted on sending him to military school in an effort to straighten him out after discovering him with his first boyfriend.

Luke acclimated easily to military life and even enjoyed it, plus he was getting laid more than ever, so he set his sights on a military career. However, Luke was unrepentant about his sexuality, so after a successful basic training in the Army and deployment in Afghanistan, he was discharged under Don't Ask, Don't Tell in 2002.

An American private military contractor called Zeus Dynamic recruited Luke immediately for his solid record of performance. Zeus Dynamic also made it clear that it already had several openly gay ex-soldiers on its payroll. Eager to continue on a military path on his own terms, Luke accepted the offer and advanced his training as a close combat specialist. He spent eight years with Zeus Dynamic deployed throughout the Middle East, primarily in Iraq and Afghanistan. These were surprisingly happy times for the man.

They ended with two tragic events. In the fall of 2010, Luke's longtime boyfriend, fellow merc Jordan Whitehall, disappeared, along with his entire unit, on a covert op in northern Iraq. The American military eventually reported all involved dead, and only through his superiors did Luke learn that they had run afoul of some black ops mission involving a classified Iraqi chemical plant. Just as he received this news, Luke also learned that his mother was fighting breast cancer.

Luke took an extended leave of absence to return to the States, where he found his family in shambles. Several of his siblings had turned to a life of delinquency and addiction, and many of his family barely talked to each other. His mother was eager to make amends for his past treatment, though, and even Luke's father had grown warmer over the years. Luke spent the next year as a stabilizing influence for his family, and he expended most of his accumulated wealth trying to bring his family in line, with limited success. His mother died in November of 2011, just as the first snows fell, and Luke decided it was time to get back to his passion.

His concern for his family prevented him from leaving the States, however, and he was beginning to age out of front line deployment, so Luke asked for a Stateside civilian assignment with Zeus Dynamic's daughter company Athena Security as a bodyguard. Initially, the detachment of floating from assignment to assignment was just the balm he needed, but the last few years, thanks to his exposure to both America and the Middle East's wealthy elite, have brought enough disillusionment to cause him to question what his service really amounted to, particularly at the cost of Jordan's life. He is hoping for new inspiration to strike.
