Though it is properly known as the Stone Way, the great road that leads through the nigh-impenetrable Dornish Marches mountains is best known as the Boneway, for the many armies that have clashed there over the generations, and the bones of thousands upon thousands of soldiers that lie there.

This is the story of those Houses who lay claim to domains within the Marches along the Boneway, and who are charged with its first line of defense.

Princes of Dorne

  • House Martell (Great): Princess Naerys Martell is the ruler of Dorne, and princess of House Martell. The cunning and headstrong princess has thus far refused to marry any of the paramours, despite bearing multiple children to several of them, including her eleven-year old son and heir Doran, currently fostered at Salt Shore, with House Gargalen. The Princess has been in extended mourning following the deaths of her next two children at a young age, but with the recent births of her two youngest - a daughter, Elia and a son, Oberyn - seems to be emerging from that period.

Houses of the Boneway

  • House Yronwood (Major): Lord Edgar Yronwood is the Warden of the Stone Way, given the ultimate responsibility for the defense of the road that leads into Dorne from the Stormlands. Older even than House Martell, and second in power in Dorne to them, House Yronwood's history includes once ruling over the Marches and northern Dorne. Hearkening back to those origins, the head of the House is always given the title "the Bloodroyal". Their long renown has been tarnished by the actions of their recent ancestors, however, who joined forces with House Blackfyre in rebellion against the Targaryen kings and House Martell. Their arms are a black portcullis on a field of sand; their words are "We Guard the Way."
  • House Wyl (Minor): Lady Euphemia Wyl commands the citadel called Wyl, overlooking the entry to the Boneway from the Stormlands side of the massive valley road. In a very real way, House Wyl is at the forefront of any potential conflict, and it shows: their defenses are always manned, their troops always drilling and preparing for the inevitable conflict with the forces of the Stormlands that overtakes their peoples every few decades or so. Their arms are a black viper biting a man's ankle, on a field of yellow; their words are "Ware Our Sting".
  • House Redmont (Knightly): Ser Rudryck Redmont is the master of Redmont, a great peak of red stone on which is built the great citadel of Redmont. House Redmont is known for their cavalry, the Redmont Lancers, and for the jousting prowess of their knights and scions. They are sworn to House Yronwood. They fashion their arms with a red butte on an ermine field; their words are "In the Heights".
  • House Sungold (Minor): Lady Amaya Sungold rules over her House's domains, guarding not just her lands, but also the valuable gold mine near the border her House shares with House Deltario. Given their House's perfidy in acquiring that mine from the Deltarios, the Sungolds have a reputation as conniving and warlike, although the current lady of the House has taken efforts to try and mitigate that reputation. Shortly after their break from House Deltario, House Sungold swore fealty to House Yronwood. House Sungold's arms are a white sun on a field of gold; their words are "Rising in Splendor".

Stone Lord Houses

  • House Dayne of Starfall (Major): Lady Shierle Dayne is the lady of the House, and rules her brood with an iron hand from their seat at Starfall. Their arms are a silver sword across a silver falling star, on a field of lavender; their words are None So Worthy.
    • House Dayne of High Hermitage (Knightly): Ser Nestor Dayne is the current Knight of High Hermitage, as the head of this cadet branch of landed knights is titled. They are sworn to the greater House Dayne proper.
  • House Blackmont (Major): Lord Dafyn Blackmont, called the Scavenger Lord, has a dark temper and a matching reputation. His House's seat, Blackmont, is on the banks of the Torentine. Their arms are a black vulture with a pink infant in its claws, on a field of yellow; their words are Aught That Is Required.
  • House Fowler (Major): The young Lord Franklyn Fowler recently inherited lordship of his House and its seat of Skyreach. As is the norm for the heads of his House, he has been named "Warden of the Prince's Pass". Their arms are a blue hooded hawk on a field of silver; their words are Let Me Soar.
  • House Manwoody (Major): Lady Ermesande Manwoody, called the Lady of Skulls, is the Lady of House Manwoody. She has a reputation for cruelty, although she is a just woman. Her House's arms are a crowned white skull, on a field of black; their words are Death Favors None.

Salt Lord Houses

  • House Jordayne (Major): Lord Edmyr Jordayne is the Lord of his House and its seat, the Tor, on the northern coast of Dorne. Lord Edmyr is a fine sailor, and often takes to the waves in his flagship, the Inkwave. His House's arms are light and dark green checked, with a golden quill; their words are Let It Be Written.
  • House Toland (Major): Lord Sigorn Toland rules his House from their seat of Ghost Hill. Their arms are a green dragon, biting its tail, on a field of gold; their words are Without Beginning or End.
  • House Gargalen (Minor): Lady Lythene Gargalen is the current Lady of Salt Shore. Before she inherited, she was known to be something of a fierce fighter, often dressing up as one of her father's common soldiers to sneak out on maneuvers with them, much to her parents' consternation and fury. House Gargalen's arms are a red cockatrice with a black snake in its beak, on a field of gold; their words are Honor and Dedication.

Sand Lord Houses

  • House Qorgyle (Major): Lord Lorimas Qorgyle is the aging Lord of Sandstone, the seat of the House. Their arms are three black scorpions on a field of red; their words are Pride in Adversity.
  • House Uller (Major): Lord Harmen Uller is the child-lord of Hellholt, a disease having claimed his parents. Still, the boy sits his father's seat with assurance and authority, his dark eyes piercing and severe. Their arms are a rayonne yellow over crimson; their words are In Victory Wrought.
  • House Vaith (Minor): Lady Jyana Vaith is the aged matriarch of the House and Lady of the Red Dunes. Her House arms are three black leopards, standing on a yellow pile, on orange; their words are Cunning, Silence, Ferocity.
  • House Allyrion (Major): Lord Duram Allyrion heads this powerful House whose seat, Godsgrace, is on the fork between the Scourge and the Vaith Rivers. Their arms are a golden hand on gryonny black and red; their words are No Foe May Pass.
