Wayman's Rest Inn

Notable Characters

  • Fat Duram: Owner. Fat Duram is a rotund, handsome man with a full beard and thick, dark curly hair and a deep, basso voice. As a young man, Duram joined the Greycloaks, and still keeps his mace hung up behind the bar of the Tavern, where he can usually be found. He inherited the Wayman's Rest when his older brother died of a bloody flux without marrying. (43 years)
  • Goodwife Janie: Owner. A former barmaid, Janie is pleasantly plump and wears her chestnut hair in a bun at the back of her neck. She is beloved by the folk of Wayman's Rest for her gentle nature, and always has time for her neighbors' problems. She has made it her business to also be of benefit to House Graben whenever she can, going out of her way to identify those goods Lady Isalaine favors best to let her know when merchants might be in the Inn with such. (40 years)
  • Ortyn: Owners' Son. A young man, Ortyn is tall and muscled, and throws himself into the more physically demanding aspects of helping his parents. He is something of a handiman, having inherited those duties from Old Mern, the woodworker and carpenter who used to tend to the Inn's needs. He can be a bit rowdy when drunk, however, a state his parents try and prevent as often as possible. (15 years)
  • Edna, Kaylee, Sophie, Wylla, Perla, Delia: Barmaids & Servers. The six barmaids work in shifts, each taking a single day of the week off, with all of them on duty during market days. Edna is a round young woman with a high and lovely singing voice, with the personality of a hopeless romantic (24 years). Kaylee is a plain girl with light brown eyes; she tends to be forgetful in her duties, much to the ire of Goodwife Janie and the other maids (18 years). Sophie is a raven-haired beauty, with a competitive streak and a flirtatious nature (22 years). Wylla is shapely, not quite as lovely as Sophie, but with curves that draw all the mens' eyes; she and Sophie maintain something of a friendly rivalry with one another (21 years). Perla is the eldest of the barmaids, a brown-haired, sour-faced woman who Janie often leaves in charge, which she wields with great delight (31 years). Delia is the youngest of the girls, unremarkable save for her smooth, milk-white skin; she has gained a reputation as a snitch who has ingratiated herself to Perla and Goodwife Janie (17 years).
  • Mother Cynthea, Alison, Daemon & Yrsa: Cook & Kitchen Helpers. The kitchens are the domain of Mother Cynthea, a sallow-skinned matriarch whose miserly nature suits the Inn's needs well; she is also well-known for her fear of bugs, much to the delight of pranksome stablehands (48 years). Alison is Cynthea's daughter, a short, rotund woman with a gentle (if somewhat milquetoast) personality (31 years). Daemon is an orphan Cynthea took in to help around the kitchens, a slim ginger youth with a terrible set of scars on his arms and torso, given to him by his mad father as a boy (13 years). Yrsa is a rosy-cheeked young woman who does most of the baking in the kitchens; she has something of a reputation for licentiousness, much to Mother Cynthea's scandal (19 years).
  • Brielle, Helena & Warra, : Chambermaids. The chambermaids tend to the cleaning of the inn. During some of the evenings, they may lend a hand in tavern or taproom if there is a large crowd. Brielle is a shapely girl with a squeaky voice, which wouldn't ordinarily be much of a bother save that she likes to sing songs from her childhood while she merrily cleans (23 years). Helena is a sadly bedraggled woman, with lanky hair and a persistent cough. Of all the maids, though, she is the one who takes the most pride in her work (33 years). Warra is an unremarkable young woman whom Goodwife Janie calls her "little mouse"; she has a fascination with large crowds of people, loving to watch them from someplace out of the way (29 years).
  • Lyle & Arron: Porters. The Inn maintains a pair of strong men to help with carrying heavy loads during the day and making sure locals and guests don't get too out of hand in the tavern and taproom at night. Lyle is the older of the two porters, a short, poorly groomed man with a reputation as something of a lech (34 years). In contrast, Arron is a strapping young redhead, friendly and outgoing, who has made friends with (and some say more than friends with) most of the young ladies at the Inn (21 years).
  • Lothor, Kayle & Ryam: Groom & Stablehands. The groom, aided by his stablehands, is responsible for the care of the mounts belonging to guests, as well hitching and unhitching them from the various wagons. Lothor is the groom, an older man of common features with something of a temper (41 years). Kayle has been a stablehand at the Inn for as long as anyone can remember, as his grey hair and weathered features attest; he is quiet and unassuming, having turned down the position of groom many times in his life, preferring to work with horses and live a plain life. Ryam is a handsome lad with a shock of straw-colored hair; though everyone in the Inn knows his love of (sometimes cruel) pranks, his love for animals is also apparent (17 years).
