- The Academy of Night: Foremost scholarly institution, with branches in other systems. Teach cold logic as a discipline, avoiding sunlight. Located on a moon with a counter-solar rotation
- Former barbarian cultures now heavily influenced by Academy to form consensus-based philosophical governments. Heavily involved in establishment of orbital stations that use everfrost.
- Few remaining "frost-worlder" cultures that dwell on cold planetary surfaces.
- Everfrost: water treated with a chemical that, when frozen, sets up a freezing reaction in the ice, causing it to maintain its cold temperature almost indefinitely. Chemical also creates ice of steel-like strength and durability that "weeps" mist in warm climes.
- Dueling Culture: Frostworlders and Stationers alike maintain a dueling culture, using everfrost blades.
