  • Detect the Spell: Must be able to detect the spell to be countered as it is cast.
    • Vulgar Spells: Automatically detected as cast, due to the flare of nimbus from its caster.
    • Covert Spells: To detect a covert spell as it is cast, the mage must have Mage Sight active. This must either be Supernal Vision (Prime-based Mage Sight) or the Mage Sight of one of the Arcana that the spell being cast is from.
  • Counterspelling Roll: Roll Gnosis + Arcanum of the spell being cast.
    • Instead of using the Arcanum of the spell being cast, the mage may also use Prime 2.
    • It is possible to gain a rote for Counterspelling, in which case the dice pool is based on the rote.
  • Effect: Each success on the Counterspelling roll reduces the Potency of the spell being cast by 1.
    • Spells reduced to 0 Potency are negated entirely.
  • Action: Counterspelling may be performed as a Dodge action (that is, may be done at any time during a turn, as long as it is before your action is taken).
