- After a combat, there is a chance that any injuries taken may fester.
- Before any other healing takes place, make an Endurance (Resilience) test.
- If an injured character is treated by someone with Healing and appropriate supplies, add a bonus to this test equal to the healer's Healing skill, or half that amount if they do not have appropriate supplies.
- Use the worst Difficulty based on the damage taken.
- Damage: Difficulty 3 for less than half of Health taken, or Difficulty 6 for more than half of Health.
- Injuries: Difficulty 6 for one Injury, +3 per additional Injury.
- Wounds: Difficulty 9 for one Wound, +3 per additional Wound.
- Results
- Success: The healing goes smoothly, and the patient fights off any infection during the healing interval.
- Failure: The patient catches an infection from the injuries sustained. Ignore the first successful healing interval; instead, the first successful roll fights off the infection. Normal healing may be resumed after that point. If only healing Damage, this interval is checked in six hour increments.
- A Critical Failure during the healing process not only awards another Injury or Wound, but also causes another bout of infection.
