Personality Traits: CLEANLINESS: Tyrannus is a neat freak. Sometimes he is able to ignore the small messes of others (in passing and not on his property or in his company), but when faced with anything greater than that, he tends to have a strong reaction. The severity of his reaction can be directly gauged by how dirty/revolting something is. Ideals: MIGHT:The Strongest are meant to rule! Bonds: MEMORY:My late parents deaths were a product the bullshit pomp and circumstance surroundingThe Game. Because of that, he secretly loathes the The Game;while he is a budding master of its many parts, he wishes for it in its entirety was razed to the ground. Flaws: DUPLICITOUS:On the outside Tyrannus is joyous, gracious and kind. In reality he is a sadistic sociopath. VINDICTIVE:If you do him an injury he will crush you, ruin your name, and salt your fields. |

Only death awaits you all. But do not fear. For it is through death that a new spirit energy is born. Soon, you will live again as a part of me. Let us gift each other with this moment. -Tyrannus Adarbrent
Origin
Lord Tyrannus Adabrent came into the world through tragedy. His parents, Kraeis Adarbrent younger brother of Royus Adarbrent, and Kiarrah Zulpair (a female noble of medium standing within her house) were forbidden to associate with one another--let alone marry. For you see, House Adarbrent and House Zulpair are rivals of a terrible sort; as the Adarbrents seek to control and dominate the sea through their devotion to Valkur and The Zulpairs respect and love the sea, working alongside the its tempestuous and dangerous mistress, the "Bitch-Queen" Umberlee.
When Royus found out about their secret union and the resulting pregnancy, he cast Kraeis out. Using his power and influence, Royus strong-armed the pair onto a boat and by sword point, commanded his brother to set sail for far from Waterdeep; never to bring his shame back to ruin the glorious name of their family. While out at sea, Kraeis and the now pregnant Kiarrah sailed into a monstrous storm, along with their small skeleton crew. No one knows the details on how exactly it happened, but somehow the storm obliterated the ship and nearly everything on it, killing everyone on board. Everyone that is, except the infant Tyrannus.
A few days after Royus sent the two star-crossed lovers away from Waterdeep, he received reports of a devastating storm off of the Hook Coast, the same direction he anticipated his little brother, Kraeis going. Worried of his fate, Royus sent a search party to find evidence of his brothers well-being. A medium-sized search was quickly underway. Eventually the search party came upon a vast wreckage and found the young lord, awake and alert, floating on a piece of the ship alongside the impaled corpse of his father; wrapped in a blanket emblazoned with the crest of House Adarebrent. 3 days later, Tyrannus was brought to Waterdeep along with the body of his father. Royus was hit with the sobering reality that his little brother's death was of Royus' making. The level of grief and guilt he then experienced was crippling; in fact it was great enough that he named and adopted Tyrannus--vowing to make amends through unwavering love and support of his nephew, raising him as he would raise his own.
Tyrannus grew up alongside his cousins, and became closest with Alroy, the Heir of House Adarbrent. As Tyrannus grew in age, his magical powers started to manifest. At first he tested these innate powers through harmless exploration. However, as his power grew, so did his love of pitting friends against each other and sometimes torturing small animals. Near his coming out his tastes grew more sinister; he began privately performing acts of great violence to any animals he could find, and when he bored with them, eventually moved on to other humanoids--mostly slaves and petty criminals that no one would notice if they went missing. These dark rituals became a private obsession for Tyrannus; he reveled in the moments before and after death--thinking of them as moments of pure ecstasy. He knew this love of his would be easy to conceal as a relatively unknown young lord, but would become increasingly difficult to conceal after his coming out. After all, he is close with both the head of House Adarbrent and his heir; being of nobility comes with a certain degree of visibility.
To remedy this, he set out to become secretly involved in the criminal underworld--a place where his passions would be celebrated--while simultaneously crafting an ironclad outer persona that would be sure to become the "next big thing" in Waterdeep. He, along with all the resources that he could manipulate out of his uncle, created one of the greatest dual coming out festivals for both himself and his cousin Alroy. Together, they won the hearts of many a Waterdavian noble, and remain in good standing to this day. No one, other than his dark companions, know of his sadistic obsessions or of his involvement in the criminal underworld. As he makes his way back into Waterdeep, his Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent make him a shining beacon for the future of House Adarbrent.

Important Individuals
Barduris The Thief of Crowns Though you knew him as "Barduris," he has apparently become the "Thief of Crowns" in the time since you snuck him into your bed to protect him from the Adarbrent guards. Now, he's the scourge of the nobility, sneaking into their estates to make away with their finest of expensive trophies - things that hurt not just the coffers, but their pride as well.
The Exquisite Matron Tormentrix Revered and reviled for her training of some of the North's finest and most skilled tormentors and tormentrices, the Exquisite will not speak of her origins. Some believe she is some kind of fey, and others believe her a creature of the Shadowfell - but all of that is idle festhall chatter. She runs an academy of sorts - her Boudoir of Agonies - where she trains her protegees. She is suspected of having connections to a Waterdhavian cult of Loviatarans. |
Iolrath Marfander Butler of Rubycliff House (Rank 5) • 64 years Distinguished and unflappable, the half-elven Iolrath has been a servant for House Adarbrent for longer than they have been ennobled in Waterdeep. Iolrath maintains exquisite order in the house and ensures that everything that needs to go on behind the scenes does so outside of the view of the family he serves. For their part, the Adarbrents consider him not-quite-family - all of them have grown up with him, and many nights Lord Royus and he sit up after everyone else has gone to bed and the two talk, exchanging advice. |
Your Old Noble Crew
Royus Adarbrent Cousin Your cousin often depended on your charisma and nerve when it came to social fun and making a name for himself, but once he was "warmed up" he always enjoyed himself. He considers you an indispensable "wingman." Alroy was the first person in Tyrannus's life to make him feel okay in his own skin. While he thinks Alroy is far too timid for one with so much power, Tyrannus cares deeply for his cousin. Part of the resentment towards Royus Adarbrent boiling underneath Tyrannus's skin is due to his anger around being separated from his beloved cousin for as long as he was. Tyrannus views Alroy as a perfect potential "second."
Maedis Ammakyl The Would-Be Lover Frankly one of the finest young nobles of your generation when it comes to entertaining gossip (both knowing it and causing it), carrying on overblown, high-drama love affairs (and breakups), and in general making sure everyone is having a good time, Maedis has made moon-eyes at you for years. While Maedis is undeniably attractive, Tyrannus secretly doesn't trust his "loose-lips" or tendency for needless drama. You'd never know that, as Tyrannus has spent many long hours with Maedis diving head-first into the lastest and juiciest gossip of the land, over the best vint of the year, and only at the finest establishments--in perfect view of all those who hunger for Maedis's attention. After all, to entertain and deny the advances of such an amazingly popular Lord speaks highly of anyone.
Emilos Melshimber The Rake Fine with a blade, and quick with the ladies, Emilos is a rake and a partier. He always has the best gossip and the best wine, and that made him an inseparable part of the crew. The beautiful dark player. Not only does Tyrannus respect his skill with a blade, he wonders if, deep down within Emilos, there dwells a sleeping monster; one that, with the right encouragement, could be a wonderful compliment to Tyrannus's love of torturous pain and death. Alongside this curiosity, an unspoken and long-brewed sexual attraction has grown between the two of them over the years leading up to their adulthood. Sadly, nothing was ever done about it before Tyrannus's temporary exile to Yartar.
Lolys Emveolstone The Instigator If her rather rough family are a House of coals, Lolys is the diamond found among them. She is beautiful and quick-witted - probably the cleverest of the crew, if truth is being told - and she loves to tear down those who she decides are "too pompous to tolerate." My sagacious siren. Lolys is one of the few people in the realms that actually has Tyrannus's respect. Not to mention that she is one of the few people the he has ever honestly gossiped with--with everyone else, it's all a part of some grand ruse; with her, he feels like he can let himself go a bit. Growing up, when he found himself frustrated with the bullshit of the game, he always found a like-mindedness with his friend Lolys. |
